JAMMU, Feb 11, 2026 — In a major move toward modernizing urban mobility, the Jammu and Kashmir administration is finalizing the infrastructure for 200 electric buses under the PM eBus Sewa Scheme. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting of the UT-Level Steering Committee today to fast-track the project, which aims to provide eco-friendly and efficient public transport in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
The Chief Secretary directed officials to expedite the development of Behind-the-Meter (BTM) power infrastructure and civil depot facilities to ensure the fleet is operational immediately upon arrival.Under this flagship national program, 100 e-buses each will be allocated to Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) and Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL).
The fleet composition is strategically designed to meet local needs: Jammu will receive 25 buses of 12-meter length and 75 buses of 7-meter length, while Srinagar will procure 20 buses of 12-meter length and 80 buses of 9-meter length.
Commissioner Secretary H&UDD, Mandeep Kaur, confirmed that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has already released the initial tranches of funding, including ₹14.28 crore for power infrastructure and ₹14.05 crore for civil works, to facilitate timely execution.
Commissioner JMC, Devansh Yadav, informed the committee that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been approved and tenders for the depot infrastructure have already been issued. By leveraging the expertise of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) for procurement, the UT aims to optimize costs and ensure transparency.
Chief Secretary Dulloo underscored that this initiative is a cornerstone of sustainable urban mobility, significantly contributing to reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality while offering citizens a safe and reliable transit experience.
