JAMMU | January 12, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has officially released the provisional calendar for the fifth session of the Legislative Assembly, set to begin on February 2, 2026.
According to the notification issued by Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, the high-stakes budget session will commence with the Lieutenant Governor’s Address. The proceedings are structured in two distinct phases to accommodate the holy month of Ramadan, with the entire session scheduled to conclude on April 4, 2026.
The first phase of the session, running through mid-February, will be dominated by fiscal discussions and legislative address responses. Following the LG’s address, the house will hold a three-day discussion on the Motion of Thanks from February 3 to February 5.
A critical milestone occurs on Friday, February 6, with the presentation of the Annual Financial Statement (Budget) for 2026-27 and the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025-26.
This will be followed by a general discussion on the budget from February 7 to February 10, leading into a series of sittings dedicated to the Demands for Grants starting February 11 and continuing through February 19.
After a scheduled break, the session will resume in late March for its final leg. The calendar lists Appropriation Bills for March 27, followed by Government Business and Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions through the end of the month.
The session’s final days in April will focus on Private Members’ business on April 1 and 2, concluding with Government Business on Saturday, April 4, after a holiday for Good Friday on April 3.
This comprehensive schedule ensures that both vital government fiscal planning and individual member initiatives are addressed before the session’s adjournment.
