Jammu and Kashmir ANTF Arrests Drug Peddler in Srinagar; Contraband Charas Seized at Zainakote

SRINAGAR, APRIL 10, 2026 — In a successful operation against the narcotics trade, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir apprehended a drug peddler at Abanshah Road, Zainakote, and recovered approximately 400 grams of Charas.

Acting on specific intelligence that an individual named Gulzar Ahmad Sofi was planning to sell contraband to other dealers in the HMT Srinagar area, a dedicated ANTF team established a tactical checkpoint (naka).

During the search, officers intercepted Sofi, a resident of Zainakot HMT, and recovered 0.397 kg of the illegal substance from his possession. Following the recovery, the accused was immediately taken into custody.

A formal case, FIR No. 07/2026, has been registered at Police Station ANTF Kashmir under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Investigators are currently working to uncover the broader forward and backward linkages of the supply chain to identify other accomplices involved in the illicit trade.

The ANTF Jammu and Kashmir reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and intensifying the crackdown on smuggling to protect the region’s youth.

Law enforcement officials have further urged the general public to cooperate by sharing credible information to assist in the mission of achieving a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
