Jalandhar Police Bust BKI-Backed Extortion Module and Arrest Two Operatives
JALANDHAR, February 24, 2026 — In a significant crackdown on organized crime and terror-linked activities, the Counter Intelligence wing of Jalandhar has successfully dismantled an extortion module backed by the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
The operation led to the apprehension of two key operatives, identified as Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sunny, and Rawal, both residents of SBS Nagar. During the arrest, police recovered a pistol along with magazines and eight live cartridges. Preliminary investigations reveal that the duo was acting under the direct instructions of foreign-based handlers—specifically Gopi Nawashehria, Jassi Kulam, and Sushant Chopra—who are known associates of the BKI.
The probe further alleges that the accused were responsible for two separate firing incidents at the residence of a travel agent in the Garhshankar area, carried out as a violent tactic to extort money. Following the breakthrough, an FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar.
Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to trace the module’s forward and backward linkages and identify additional members involved in the network. This operation underscores the Punjab Police’s continued commitment to eradicating organized crime and ensuring long-term peace and public safety across the state.
