Jal Shakti Minister Javed Rana Announces ₹255 Crore Investment to Overhaul Water Infrastructure in Basohli
SRINAGAR, February 18, 2026 — Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today detailed a massive infrastructure push aimed at providing seamless potable water access across the Basohli constituency. While responding to a query from MLA Darshan Kumar in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister revealed that the government has sanctioned projects totaling over ₹255 crore to bridge the water supply gap in both rural and urban sectors.
For the rural population, a robust network of 43 Water Supply Schemes (WSSs) is currently being implemented, including 42 projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) valued at ₹242.46 crore and one additional project funded by NABARD. Highlighting the progress, the Minister confirmed that six of these schemes are already complete, while the remaining works have reached advanced stages of execution.
In a move to modernize urban utilities, Minister Rana announced that a dedicated project titled “Augmentation and Improvement of Water Supply System in Basohli Town” has been sanctioned under AMRUT 2.0 at an estimated cost of ₹12.60 crore. To ensure residents do not face hardships during this transition, the government is utilizing existing systems and deploying water tankers to areas with immediate needs.
Furthermore, with the Government of India extending the Jal Jeevan Mission timeline to December 2028, the Minister assured the House that all pending schemes would be finalized within this period through strenuous departmental efforts. He also clarified that contractor payments, including the release of Security Deposits and Performance Security, are being processed strictly according to contract terms to maintain project momentum and transparency.
