Iraq Intercepts Unidentified Drone Over Kirkuk Operations Sector

KIRKUK, March 26, 2026 — The Iraqi Ministry of Defense confirmed today that its military units successfully intercepted and downed an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying at a low altitude over the Kirkuk Operations Command sector.

According to an official statement released via social media, the drone was detected at approximately 10:45 AM within the area of responsibility of the 3rd Battalion, 44th Brigade, 11th Infantry Division. Military personnel responded with immediate professional precision, as a detachment from the 2nd Company managed to bring the aircraft down near the village of Al-Fakhra without any reported casualties or collateral damage.

Following the interception, a specialized task force led by the Battalion Commander and accompanied by a field engineering detachment from the 11th Division was deployed to the crash site.

The team is currently conducting necessary technical evaluations and handling the wreckage according to established military protocols. The Ministry highlighted that this swift response demonstrates the high level of vigilance and readiness maintained by Iraqi forces in monitoring and securing their assigned sectors against unauthorized aerial incursions.

The Ministry of Defense reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining regional security, stating that Iraqi troops remain on constant alert to neutralize any threats to the nation’s safety.

Officials emphasized that such provocative attempts will not deter the armed forces from their duties.
