INS Sudarshini Docks in Malta: Indian Naval Sail Ship Bolsters Mediterranean Maritime Ties During Global Voyage
VALLETTA, March 14, 2026 — Marking a historic milestone in its transoceanic expedition Lokayan-26, the Indian Naval Sail Training Ship INS Sudarshini arrived at the port of Valletta, Malta, on March 12, 2026.
This visit, a key leg of an ambitious 22,000-nautical-mile global journey, follows the vessel’s successful transit through the Suez Canal and a recent stop in Alexandria.
Upon arrival, the Commanding Officer met with Rachita Bhandari, the High Commissioner of India to Malta, who emphasized that the ship’s presence embodies the MAHASAGAR vision of regional security and maritime cooperation.
Beyond high-level diplomatic engagement, the visit includes professional exchanges with the Armed Forces of Malta to enhance interoperability and community outreach programs, such as “Open Ship” tours for local students and the Indian diaspora.
Having departed Kochi on January 20, INS Sudarshini will soon set sail for the French coast to represent India at the prestigious Escale à Sète maritime festival.
