India’s ANRF to Launch ‘SARAL AI’ to Translate Complex Science into 18 Local Languages

NEW DELHI | APRIL 13, 2026 :- Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today reviewed the strategic progress of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), highlighting a major shift toward making Indian science more accessible and impactful. A centerpiece of this initiative is the development of ‘SARAL AI’, an innovative artificial intelligence platform designed to bridge the gap between high-level academia and the general public. This tool will automatically convert dense research papers and patents into simplified, engaging social media content—including podcasts, short videos, and infographics—available in 18 different Indian languages. By “demystifying” complex data, the government aims to ensure that the benefits of scientific advancement reach every citizen in their native tongue.

The Minister also announced the launch of the ‘MAHA’ (Mission for Advancement in High Impact Areas) Leapfrog Demonstrators, a program specifically targeted at solving urgent societal challenges. These mission-mode projects will focus on scalable technology for pollution control, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and community health. To support this massive scaling of research, the ANRF has already processed nearly 20,000 applications in the last four months under flagship schemes like the Advanced Research Grant. To further streamline operations, Dr. Singh confirmed the deployment of Nodal Officers across 250 institutions to reduce administrative hurdles for scientists, alongside the launch of dedicated WhatsApp and Arattai channels to provide real-time updates to the nation’s burgeoning research community.
