New Delhi January 09,2026 :- In a major move to enhance national connectivity and operational efficiency, Indian Railways has implemented the Trains at a Glance (TAG) 2026 timetable, resulting in the speeding up of 549 trains and the introduction of 122 new services. This comprehensive overhaul focuses on reducing travel time and improving punctuality for the common man. The expansion includes a diverse fleet of 28 Vande Bharat trains, 26 Amrit Bharat trains, 60 Mail/Express services, and various premium options like Rajdhani and Humsafar Express. By streamlining schedules across all railway zones, the initiative aims to provide faster, more reliable transit, with 20 trains seeing their travel time slashed by over an hour.
The regional distribution of these upgrades shows a significant boost in infrastructure across India. The South Western Railway (SWR) emerged as a leader in efficiency, speeding up 117 trains—the highest in the country—and introducing eight new services. Other notable expansions occurred in the East Central Railway, which added 20 new trains, and the North Western Railway, which optimized 89 existing services. From the Northeast Frontier to the Southern Railway, zones have converted several services to Superfast status and increased the frequency of popular routes. These strategic changes under TAG 2026 reflect a robust commitment to modernizing the rail network and delivering high-speed, high-capacity transport solutions to passengers nationwide.
