VISAKHAPATNAM | March 21, 2026 — The Indian Navy is poised to significantly bolster its maritime combat edge with the upcoming commissioning of its latest stealth frigate, INS Taragiri (F41), scheduled for April 3, 2026. The ceremony, to be held in Visakhapatnam and presided over by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, marks the official entry of the fourth Project 17A class vessel into active service.
As a 6,670-tonne marvel of indigenous engineering, the ship represents a critical stride toward India’s goal of complete naval self-reliance.Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, the Taragiri features a sophisticated design optimized for a reduced radar cross-section, providing it with lethal stealth capabilities in contested waters.
Highlighting the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, the frigate boasts over 75% indigenous content, drawing on a vast domestic supply chain involving more than 200 MSMEs. This collaborative effort not only enhances national security but also serves as a pillar for the domestic industrial ecosystem, supporting thousands of Indian jobs.
