Indian Coast Guard Executes Swift Medical Evacuation of Injured Fisherman Off Veraval Coast
VERAVAL, March 11, 2026 — Demonstrating rapid maritime response capabilities, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully conducted a synchronized Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to save an injured fisherman in distress.
The operation was launched after the ICG received an urgent medical call from the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Guru Krupa, which was operating approximately 23 nautical miles off the coast of Veraval. ICG Ship C-149 was immediately diverted to the location, where the crew managed to safely embark and evacuate the casualty despite the challenges of the open sea.
Upon reaching the CG Jetty in Veraval, the injured fisherman was met by the Station Medical Officer, who provided critical first aid to stabilize his condition. Following initial treatment, the patient was promptly transferred to the Veraval Government Hospital for advanced medical management.
This successful mission highlights the ICG’s unwavering commitment to its motto, “Vayam Rakshamah” (We Protect), reinforcing its role as the primary savior at sea for the Indian fishing community.
