MAYABANDER, February 25, 2026 — In a remarkable display of inter-agency coordination, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at Mayabander, working alongside the Police Marine Force (PMF), Forest Department officials, and local fishermen, successfully rescued all seven individuals aboard a Pawan Hans helicopter that crashed into the sea on the morning of February 24, 2026.
The aircraft went down just moments before its scheduled landing at Mayabander Harbour in the North Andaman and Nicobar Islands, triggering an immediate and large-scale search and rescue operation. The survivors, which included two crew members and five passengers—among them three women and a five-month-old infant—were safely evacuated from the crash site and transported to the Government Hospital Mayabander for thorough medical examinations.
