Baramulla (Uri) 13th August: – A gallant Indian Army soldier sacrificed his life in a fierce gun battle with terrorists following the successful thwarted of an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Official said that the attempt at infiltration was foiled in the Churunda sector of Uri in Baramulla district in north Kashmir after the troops conducted a careful surveillance operation.
When suspicious movement was noticed along the LoC, the army acted quickly and a counter-infiltration operation launched, which resulted in an intensive firefight with the terrorists. Though the number of terrorists involved is not certain, the soldier received serious injuries from the exchange and made a supreme sacrifice subsequently. The area has been rushed with reinforcements and an extensive search operation is in progress to eliminate the other terrorists.
Security personnel have sealed off the area, and further information, including the identity of the slain soldier, is pending. The Indian Army is constantly in a state of high alertness in order to prevent any more such attempts.
