India to Launch City-Level Convention Promotion Bureaus to Drive Global MICE Tourism Growth
New Delhi 19 December :- The Union Ministry of Tourism is set to transform India’s tourism landscape by establishing city-level convention promotion bureaus as independent bodies starting in 2026, a strategic move designed to elevate the nation’s Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) ecosystem. Announced by Suman Billa, Additional Secretary and Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, at the IEIA EventTech & MarTech Summit 2025 in New Delhi, this initiative aims to position Indian cities as globally competitive destinations by leveraging world-class venues like Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi.
These professional bureaus will serve as autonomous, single-window facilitators, streamlining permissions and local networking to help double India’s share of the global MICE market within five years. A heavy emphasis is being placed on digital innovation, with Suman Billa highlighting that the integration of Artificial Intelligence, advanced computing, and smart technologies is essential for creating a future-ready exhibition sector.
Supporting this vision, Sorraj Dhawan, President of the Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA), noted that India’s MICE market is projected to surge from USD 49.4 billion in 2024 to USD 103.7 billion by 2030. By adopting a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and implementing BIS standards, these new bureaus will de-risk market entry for international organizers and address industry fragmentation. The summit also featured the launch of the “India MICE Opportunities Overview (2025–2030)” report, which provides a comprehensive roadmap for utilizing institutional reforms and technological adoption to cement India’s leadership in the global events industry.
