India Deplores Attack on Thai Vessel ‘Mayuree Naree’ in Strait of Hormuz, Urges Maritime Safety

NEW DELHI, March 11, 2026 – The Government of India has issued an official statement expressing grave concern over the escalating violence against commercial maritime traffic following a targeted attack on a Thai merchant vessel, the Mayuree Naree.

The incident occurred today in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz while the ship was en route to the Indian port of Kandla. In a formal release by the Ministry of External Affairs, India strongly “deplores” the continued targeting of civilian shipping within the context of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, noting with alarm that the intensity and lethality of such strikes are on the rise.

The Ministry highlighted the mounting human cost of these hostilities, reminding the international community that multiple lives—including those of Indian citizens—have already been lost in previous phases of the conflict.

Emphasizing the necessity of maintaining global trade stability, India reiterated that the endangerment of innocent civilian crews and the obstruction of freedom of navigation must be avoided.

The statement serves as a firm call for all parties to respect international maritime laws and ensure that commercial corridors remain safe from military interference.
