NEW DELHI, February 10, 2026 – In a significant move to bolster maritime stability, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Seychelles’ Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mr. Barry Faure, and Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Michael Anselme Marc Rosette, in New Delhi today.
The high-level meeting focused on deepening the strategic partnership between the two nations, with both sides reaffirming their shared dedication to maintaining peace, stability, and security across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Central to the discussions was the review of ongoing security collaborations and the identification of new avenues for bilateral engagement, specifically targeting the modernization of military capabilities through long-term partnerships.The delegation highlighted the importance of upcoming milestone events, including the joint military exercise LAMITYE-2026, which serves as a cornerstone for interoperability between the Indian and Seychelles Defence Forces.
Defence Secretary Singh also extended a formal invitation for Seychelles to participate in the International Fleet Review and the MILAN 2026 naval exercise scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam next week. Beyond tactical exercises, the talks covered a broad spectrum of cooperation, ranging from hydrography and training initiatives to frequent ship and aircraft visits, all aimed at fostering a robust maritime security framework.
A key highlight of the dialogue was the deliberation on MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), India’s proactive vision for inclusive and sustainable security.
By emphasizing a collaborative approach to maritime challenges, both nations underscored the necessity of development partnerships and capacity-building.
This meeting marks a renewed chapter in India-Seychelles relations, as both countries agree to enhance the depth of their defence engagements to counter emerging threats in the regional waters effectively.
