IIT Jammu inaugurates Capacity Building Program for PM SHRI Navodaya Vidyalaya Teachers of Biology, Science, and Computer Science

Jammu November 17 :- The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu inaugurated the second batch of the five-day Capacity Building Program for teachers of Biology, Science, and Computer Science from PM SHRI Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools on November 17, 2025. The program is being conducted by the Centre for Essential Skills (CES), IIT Jammu, and is funded by the Navodaya Leadership Institute (NLI), Amritsar, under the PM SHRI Initiative of the Government of India.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev, Dean, Outreach and Skill Development, IIT Jammu, who highlighted the significance of strengthening science education at the school level. She emphasized that exposure to hands-on learning, scientific inquiry, and computational thinking plays a foundational role in shaping future-ready students and encouraging deeper engagement with STEM disciplines.

This was followed by an overview of the training program by Dr. Mithu Baidya, Head, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE), IIT Jammu. Dr. Baidya outlined the focus areas of the week-long program, including practical demonstrations, technology-integrated teaching approaches, laboratory-based activities, and interactive sessions designed to enhance pedagogy across Biology, Science, and Computer Science.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Dr. Sameer Kumar Sarma Pachalla, Associate Dean, Outreach, IIT Jammu, acknowledged the contributions of faculty members from various departments who are serving as resource persons for the program. He also expressed appreciation for the continued support of NLI Amritsar and the PM SHRI initiative in enabling capacity-building programs that directly benefit school educators.

The session concluded with a group photograph of all dignitaries and participants, marking the beginning of a collaborative and enriching week of learning.

This residential training program, scheduled from November 17–21, 2025, will feature hands-on sessions, demonstrations, lectures, and interactive modules aimed at strengthening teaching practices and enriching classroom learning experiences in Navodaya Vidyalayas. IIT Jammu continues to promote such initiatives under the leadership of Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, who consistently encourages academic outreach efforts for the professional development of teachers across disciplines.
