IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi Leads Comprehensive Annual Crime Review to Strengthen Law Enforcement

Srinagar, December 27: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, presided over the high-level annual crime review meeting of the Kashmir Zone at the Police Control Room today. The session, attended by all Range DIGs, District SSPs, and senior police officials, focused on evaluating the security landscape and refining investigative strategies across the valley.

During the meeting, district heads provided extensive presentations detailing their progress in crime prevention, the registration of FIRs and e-FIRs, and the current status of case disposals within their respective jurisdictions.

The primary focus of the review revolved around high-priority cases, including those under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), terror-financing, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. V.K. Birdi meticulously reviewed the status of property attachments in UAPA cases and detentions under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Discussions also covered the progress of POCSO cases, pending inquest proceedings, and the arrest of absconders, emphasizing a holistic approach to maintaining law and order.To dismantle the narco-criminal and terror ecosystems, the IGP stressed the necessity of a robust “Pairvi” (follow-up) system and the integration of advanced scientific tools in forensics. He directed officers to enhance the quality of investigations to ensure higher conviction rates, particularly in narcotics and terror-related offenses.

Birdi underscored that improving investigative proficiency is central to strengthening the legal standing of the police in court and ensuring that justice is delivered promptly.Concluding the session, V.K. Birdi issued clear directives for district heads to conduct regular capacity-building workshops for investigating officers. These programs are intended to boost legal acumen and technical skills through the effective use of information technology.

By personally monitoring periodic reviews, the district leadership was urged to uphold the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of the general public.
