Udhampur 13th August – Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Prem Singh, today took the salute at an impressive march past during the full dress rehearsal for the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at Government PG Degree College Boys, Udhampur.A total of 32 contingents, drawn from the J&K Police, SKPA, Home Guard, NCC and other civil troups participated in the march past.The event was attended by Additional SP Sandeep Bhat, PO Poshan Subash Dogra, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh and other district heads of various departments.The full dress rehearsal commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the ADC at 9:00 AM, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
While addressing the gathering, the ADC extended warm greetings to the participants and the public ahead of Independence Day. He recalled the prolonged struggle against colonial rule and said that Independence Day is not merely a national celebration but a moment of unity, binding the diverse cultures of the nation into a single whole. This day reminds us of the countless freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the dignity and freedom of our motherland,” he said. Freedom grants us the right to speak, to learn, and to live as we choose but it also carries the responsibility to respect our country and work for its progress. Our nation stands as a beacon of hope, uniting people from all walks of life, cultures and religions to build a stronger and more prosperous India.Highlighting developmental achievements, the ADC informed that the Government has launched several social welfare schemes and urged people to avail their benefits. He noted that Udhampur District has emerged as a front-runner in various developmental indicators and is witnessing significant progress in multiple sectors. The programme also featured six theme-based cultural performances presented by students from various educational institutions, including private schools adding vibrancy and patriotic fervour to the event.
