Historic Revival of Gurukul Tradition at Shri Narsingh Dev Mandir: MoU Signed in Samba
SAMBA January 21, 2026:- A landmark shift toward preserving India’s ancient educational heritage took place today as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to establish the Shri Narsingh Dev Sanskrit Gurukul at the historic temple premises in Ghagwal.
The agreement, signed between the Shri Narsingh Dham Mandir Management Committee and the Churamani Sanskrit Sansthan, Basohli, aims to restore the teaching legacy of the 1,700-year-old shrine.
Historically a major center for Vedic learning under the Guru-Shishya Parampara, the temple’s educational role had diminished over centuries; this new initiative seeks to revive its status as a beacon of Sanskrit grammar, philosophy, and moral sciences.
The proposed Gurukul will be established in collaboration with Churamani Sanskrit Sansthan, an institution affiliated with Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi. In a significant move toward modernizing traditional studies, the institution will offer residential Vedic-cum-modern education, aligning its curriculum with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The project will undergo an initial two-to-three-year mentorship phase before operating as an independent center. The first academic session is slated to begin in March-April 2026, marking a formal return to the temple’s roots as an intellectual and spiritual hub.
The signing ceremony was attended by key figures including Shakti Kumar Pathak, Director ACB J&K and Chief Trustee of Churamani Sanskrit Sansthan, and Ayushi Sudan, DC Samba and Chairperson of the Temple Management Committee.
Also present were SDM Ghagwal K.S. Bali and Principal Dr. Soumya Ranjan, along with local representatives and district officers. This collaboration is viewed as a vital step in ensuring that Jammu’s cultural and linguistic traditions are passed down to future generations, blending timeless wisdom with contemporary educational standards.
