Himalayan Rescue: BRO’s Project Swastik Defies Blizzards at 18,000 Feet to Save 135 Stranded Tourists in North Sikkim
GANGTOK, April 09, 2026: In a daring display of courage and technical expertise, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) successfully executed a high-altitude rescue mission to save 135 tourists stranded in the treacherous terrain of North Sikkim.
Operating under the aegis of Project Swastik, BRO personnel battled relentless blizzards, near-zero visibility, and extreme oxygen depletion at altitudes exceeding 18,000 feet to reach the trapped travelers.
The mission, described by officials as more than just a snow-clearance operation, required exceptional coordination and unwavering resolve to navigate nature’s fiercest elements.
By successfully accounting for every life and restoring vital lifelines, the “indomitable men” of the BRO proved once again their critical role in North India’s security and emergency response.
The operation has been hailed as a testament to the organization’s motto of building and maintaining lifelines even when the most brutal environmental conditions break normal infrastructure.
