Heavy Snowfall at Patnitop Triggers Major Tourism Surge Following Decade-High Snow Spells

PATNITOP, January 29, 2026 — Following the successful clearance of snow from both the Kud and Batote access points, the famous hill resort of Patnitop is witnessing a massive influx of tourists eager to experience the season’s first significant snowfall.

Since the initial snow hit Patnitop, Nathatop, Sanasar, and Batote on January 23, the region has transformed into a winter wonderland, drawing “snow buffs” in record numbers and bringing much-needed relief to a tourism industry previously hit by a slump following regional security concerns and natural disasters.

Local stakeholders—including hoteliers, taxi operators, photographers, and vendors—are expressing immense optimism as this decade-high snowfall promises to revive livelihoods and compensate for past economic losses.

With the resorts now teeming with visitors, the local community remains upbeat, hopeful that continued spells of heavy snow will further boost income levels and solidify the recovery of the Jammu and Kashmir tourism sector.
