Healing Through Employment: Omar Abdullah Grants 90 Compassionate Appointments to Bereaved Families at SKICC
SRINAGAR, April 09, 2026:- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presided over a poignant ceremony at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) today, formally distributing appointment orders to 90 beneficiaries under SRO-43 and the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme (RAS).
Addressing the candidates from across the Kashmir division, Omar Abdullah acknowledged that while a government job is typically a milestone of joy, these specific appointments stem from the profound pain of losing a primary breadwinner.
He remarked that no employment could ever substitute for the loss of a loved one, noting that the sacrifice made by these families far outweighs any competitive examination.
The Chief Minister pledged to further reform the system, admitting that the transition to the new Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme was designed to fix structural delays and eliminate the injustice of forcing grieving families to navigate cumbersome bureaucratic hurdles.
The event, attended by a host of dignitaries including Minister Javaid Ahmad Dar, Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary M. Raju, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, served as a platform for the Chief Minister to urge new recruits toward ethical public service.
Omar Abdullah advised the appointees to work with unwavering sincerity and integrity, reminding them that their roles carry a lifelong responsibility to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir until retirement.
He specifically lauded the efforts of the divisional administration, including Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and Commissioner SMC Fazlul Haseeb, for clearing the backlog and directed officials to expedite all remaining cases.
Others present at the high-profile gathering included MD KPDCL Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director SKICC Haris Ahmed Handoo, and Director Tourism Kashmir Qamar Sajad, marking a collective departmental commitment to supporting families in distress.
