GULMARG, Feb 10, 2026 — The world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg, along with the scenic town of Tangmarg and other higher reaches of Baramulla, experienced a fresh spell of snowfall on Tuesday morning.
This atmospheric change aligns with the recent forecast by the Meteorological (MET) Department, which predicted the arrival of a weak Western Disturbance affecting the Jammu and Kashmir region. The snowfall has brought a renewed winter charm to the valley, delighting tourists and locals alike as the landscape transforms into a pristine white vista.
According to weather experts, this current Western Disturbance is expected to trigger light to moderate precipitation across many parts of the Union Territory throughout the day. While the higher altitudes are receiving snow, the plains are likely to see light rainfall.
The MET office further indicated that this is not an isolated event; another minor spell of rain or snow is anticipated over specific higher reaches around February 14, followed by a second weak Western Disturbance currently forecasted for February 17.
Authorities have advised travelers and residents in hilly areas to remain cautious due to potential disruptions in surface transportation caused by the slippery road conditions. Despite the minor travel hurdles, the fresh snowfall is seen as a positive development for the local tourism industry and the region’s water resources.
As the “Chilla-i-Kalan” period has passed, these intermittent spells are crucial for maintaining the snow depth required for winter sports activities in the Gulmarg bowl.
