Lucknow, February 18, 2026 — Marking a pivotal moment for gender integration in the armed forces, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Surya Command, visited the ongoing Women Military Police (WMP) Agniveer Recruitment Rally at the AMC Centre & College, Lucknow Cantonment.

Organized by the Recruiting Office (Headquarters) under the Recruiting Zone for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the rally targets women candidates who successfully cleared the Combined Entrance Examination in July 2025. During his visit, the Army Commander was extensively briefed on the rally’s execution and the specialized digital initiatives implemented to maintain a transparent, merit-based selection process.

The Army Commander lauded the professionalism of the recruiting staff and emphasized that the induction of women into the Corps of Military Police (CMP), a milestone approved in 2019, represents a profound institutional transformation. He highlighted that women in the CMP are not just a symbolic presence but a functional necessity that enhances the Army’s ability to handle gender-sensitive operational scenarios.

By integrating women into these roles, the Indian Army continues to evolve into a more socially representative and technologically adept force, strengthening its overall operational effectiveness on the modern battlefield.

Addressing the aspiring candidates, Lieutenant General Sengupta praised the high standards and grit displayed by the participants. He underscored that the increasing role of women in the military is a strategic long-term investment and an operational requirement for national security.
