GMC Srinagar Achieves Perfect Score, Wins Prestigious National Excellence Award in Biomedical Research
NEW DELHI — In a landmark achievement for Jammu and Kashmir’s medical fraternity, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar was honored with the prestigious Excellence Award at the third national Medical Colleges Research Connect–2026.
Held on February 28, 2026, at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi, the high-profile conference was organized by the Department of Health Research (DHR) under the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Competing against over 100 Medical Research Units (MRUs) from across India, GMC Srinagar secured a flawless perfect score of 10/10, distinguishing itself as a premier hub for scientific innovation.
Represented by Nodal Officer Prof. Sabhiya Majid and Dr. Younis Rather, the institution’s plenary presentation captivated national experts by highlighting its rapid advancements in research protocols, specialized laboratory training, and high-impact national collaborations.
The award serves as a powerful validation of the Omar Abdullah-led Government’s focus on upgrading healthcare through evidence-based science. Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal and Dean of GMC Srinagar, lauded the Medical Research Unit team for their relentless pursuit of excellence, noting that this national recognition is a pivotal milestone in transforming the college into a global center for translational and priority-driven biomedical research.
