GMC Anantnag Suspends Three Staff Members Over Expired Glucose Allegations; Probe Launched

ANANTNAG, MAR 27: Authorities at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag have placed three staff members under immediate suspension following alarming reports of medical negligence involving the alleged administration of expired intravenous (IV) glucose to patients.

The suspended personnel—identified as the Incharge Store Keeper, the Incharge Pharmacist, and a Staff Nurse from the Surgery Ward—were sidelined after claims surfaced that patients had been treated with glucose bottles that expired nearly a year ago.

The incident came to light after distressed attendants noticed several patients developing sudden adverse reactions shortly after being put on drips.

Upon inspecting the medical supplies, family members discovered the outdated labels, sparking immediate outrage over the hospital’s supply chain management. Relatives of the patients have labeled the lapse as “grave negligence,” questioning how expired stock managed to bypass procurement protocols and reach the bedside of vulnerable patients.

Medical Superintendent of the MMABM Associated Hospital, Dr. Arshad Hassan Siddiqui, confirmed that a formal inquiry has been initiated to pin down accountability.

He reiterated that the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any actions that compromise patient safety, promising that responsibility will be fixed swiftly.

In response to the crisis, families are demanding a comprehensive audit of the hospital’s storage and distribution mechanisms, as well as the potential blacklisting of any suppliers involved in the oversight.(Agencies)
