Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to Bolster Maritime, Defence Logistics, and Multimodal Transport Infrastructure

During the second University Court meeting held at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi, Chancellor Ashwini Vaishnaw (Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology) detailed an ambitious roadmap for Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to become a cornerstone of India’s infrastructure and transport sectors. Highlighting the university’s rapid three-year evolution into an industry-driven role model, Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that GSV will now expand its academic and research focus beyond Railways and Aviation to include specialized curriculums in Bridge and Tunnel Engineering and the Maritime sector, with a specific emphasis on shipbuilding.

The institution is set to play a pivotal role in national security and logistics by upskilling the Defence Forces and conducting applied research for integrated multimodal transport planning. The meeting, attended by prominent figures including Rajmata of Baroda Shubhangini Raje Gaekwad, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and Vice-Chief of the Army Staff Lt. Gen. Pushpendra Singh, underscored the university’s success in executive training for PM Gati Shakti and Civil Services. Moving forward, GSV will begin conducting probationary training for IRMS officers this year and is expanding its physical footprint with a new master plan for additional campus infrastructure. Strengthening its collaborative ecosystem, the university announced a new MOU with BISAG to accelerate the PM Gati Shakti initiative and secured financial support from AMD for a dedicated incubation facility, while the Vice-Chief of Army Staff advocated for the affiliation of Indian Army academies with the university to scale up logistics and supply chain training.
