GANDERBAL, FEBRUARY 07, 2026: In a major crackdown on land-related crimes, the Ganderbal Police have arrested a notorious “land shark” accused of defrauding several citizens of their hard-earned money.
The accused, identified as Javid Ahmad Gojree, son of Ali Mohammad Gojree and a resident of Rangil, Ganderbal, allegedly operated under the guise of a professional land broker.
His modus operandi involved falsely presenting disputed or government-owned land as his own private property to lure unsuspecting buyers into fraudulent investments.The investigation revealed that Gojree is a habitual offender with a long-standing criminal history across multiple years.
His records include a string of previous First Information Reports (FIRs) involving criminal trespass, forgery, and intimidation. Specifically, the accused has been linked to FIR No. 172/2018, FIR No. 136/2018, FIR No. 127/2019, and FIR No. 232/2023. Most recently, he was booked under FIR No. 17/2026 for serious violations of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The arrest follows numerous complaints from victims who only discovered the true status of the land after significant financial transactions had already taken place.In light of this arrest, the Jammu & Kashmir Police have issued a formal public advisory, urging citizens to exercise extreme caution during property dealings.
To prevent further victimization, officials advise the public to verify land records directly with the Revenue Department and ensure all brokers are authorized and genuine before signing any agreements. The police have reiterated that any suspicious land-related activity should be reported immediately to the nearest station to facilitate swift legal intervention.
