JAMMU, January 03, 2026 : In a strategic move to bolster the first line of defense along the International Border, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh inaugurated an intensive training program for 85 Village Defence Group (VDG) members at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu today.
The participants, hailing from the highly sensitive border sectors of Arnia, R.S. Pura, and Kanachak, are undergoing specialized instruction in handling automatic rifles, minor tactics, and self-defense.
The curriculum also includes technical training in bunker construction and strategies to repel enemy attacks, which is particularly critical during the winter months when heavy fog increases the risk of infiltration, drone activity, and cross-border tunneling.
The training is being conducted by expert instructors, including specialized teams from the Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu. A major highlight of the session is the recent upgrade of weaponry; the VDG members expressed significant confidence after being allotted Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) to replace their outdated .303 rifles.
SSP Joginder Singh, accompanied by senior officers including SP Headquarters and SP Operations, commended the VDGs for their pivotal role in strengthening internal security.
He noted that empowering these community-based groups is a core component of the administration’s multi-layered security strategy, ensuring that border residents are well-equipped to serve as effective first responders during any security exigency.
