Fresh Snowfall at Pir Ki Gali Forces Closure of Historic Mughal Road for All Traffic

SRINAGAR, JAMMU & KASHMIR — March 15, 2026 — The historic Mughal Road, a vital link connecting the Poonch and Rajouri districts with the Kashmir Valley, has been closed to all vehicular movement following a fresh spell of snowfall and heavy rain at Pir Ki Gali.

Officials announced the closure on Sunday afternoon as inclement weather conditions made the high-altitude pass hazardous for commuters.

SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Farooq Qaiser, confirmed that the decision to shut the road was taken as a critical precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

Authorities have strongly advised travelers to refrain from using the route until weather conditions improve and the road is cleared of snow.

The Traffic Department stated that a formal update regarding the reopening of the thoroughfare will be issued only after a thorough safety assessment is completed.
