Flash Floods Trigger Five-Hour Rescue at Jammu IIIM Hostel

JAMMU, AUGUST 24: Flash floods triggered by an overflowing canal submerged the ground floor of an Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) hostel here on Sunday, necessitating a five-hour rescue mission to save 45 trapped students.

Officials confirmed that teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police successfully evacuated everyone using boats.IIIM Director Dr. Zabeer Ahmed assured that the students were safe and that the institute had provided them with alternative accommodation. He thanked the rescue services and emphasized that the institute’s own resources were deployed to ensure student safety.

The incident was part of broader monsoon-related damage in Jammu. A road near the Tawi bridge caved in, a culvert at the bus stand collapsed, and low-lying areas experienced significant property damage as water entered homes and swept away vehicles.
