Anantnag, Oct 03: The first rail freight train carrying automobile stock was successfully unloaded tody at the newly operational Anantnag Goods Shed, a major milestone in the development of logistics and transport in the Kashmir region.
In the early hours of last Friday, the train arrived at the newly operational Goods Shed After successfully completing a distance of over 850 kilometers from Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s Gati Shakti Terminal in Manesar, Haryana in just 45 hours.
The train carried 116 vehicles, newly manufactured by Maruti Suzuki. This was the first ‘automobile rake’ to enter the Kashmir Valley and ‘overt rail-based automobile transport’ was made a reality.
Officials from the Northern Railways praised the successful unloading operation as a ‘significant leap forward’ in the region’s freight logistics. Local stakeholders, including automobile dealers and transport operators, expressed satisfaction over the switch from road to rail transport.
