SRINAGAR, Feb 05 — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Kashmir Crime Branch has produced a formal chargesheet before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, against Afshan Shabir of Zadibal for allegedly securing a government appointment through fraudulent citizenship claims.
Appointed as an Assistant Professor at SKIMS Soura in 2019, Shabir is accused under Sections 199 and 420 of the RPC for concealing that she is a United Kingdom national and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, a status that legally barred her from holding a government post.
According to the investigation, she applied as an “in-service” candidate using a State Subject Certificate to falsely declare herself an Indian citizen and permanent resident of J&K; however, a review of her seized personal records and her own admission confirmed she had acquired British citizenship prior to her service.
Following the establishment of these misrepresentations, which resulted in wrongful financial gain, her services were terminated in August 2022, and the case has now been moved for judicial adjudication.
