Education Cannot Be Communalised, J&K Needs Merit, Balance & Responsible Politics Says Akash Verma Additional Spokesperson NC

Udhampur 23 November :-Education Cannot Be Communalised, J&K Needs Merit, Balance & Responsible Politics. Only then Jammu & Kashmir can progress with stability, dignity, and shared purpose said Akash Verma Additional Spokesperson, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference.

The recent remarks made by leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party calling for the cancellation of admissions and the shifting of Muslim students to other medical colleges are deeply disturbing and highly irresponsible.

Giving a communal colour to academic institutions is unacceptable and goes against the very foundation of our constitutional values. Our education system must remain unbiased, inclusive, and driven solely by merit.

No student should ever feel targeted or discriminated against on the basis of religion. Merit, transparency, and equal opportunity must be the only guiding principles for admissions and academic decisions. The National Conference strongly condemns this attempt to polarise society.

At a time when Jammu & Kashmir requires unity, administrative stability, and confidence-building measures, the BJP continues to indulge in rhetoric that divides communities and weakens public institutions.

Their politics thrives on creating fault lines where none exist, pushing our youth into fear and uncertainty. At the same time, these divisive voices conveniently ignore the real issues people of J&K are facing rising unemployment, institutional decline, and growing regional mistrust. A significant contributor to this mistrust was the abrupt abolition of the Darbar Move, a system that had ensured administrative balance and equal engagement of both Jammu and Kashmir with the seat of governance for more than a century. Its removal caused widespread inconvenience, weakened coordination between departments, reduced accessibility to government offices, and deepened the sense of regional imbalance.

People across both regions have consistently highlighted how the restoration of the Darbar Move would strengthen administrative responsiveness, revive historical linkages, and reinforce the fairness that defined our governance tradition. The public sentiment is clear, its revival is welcomed because it symbolises balanced governance and shared representation.

At this crucial juncture, the leadership of Omar Abdullah has brought renewed hope, clarity, and direction. Under his leadership, the National Conference is taking strong and deliberate steps to bridge regional divides, rebuild public trust, and ensure holistic development across J&K.

Omar Abdullah’s governance philosophy is centred on inclusiveness, fairness, accountability, and balanced growth. His consistent outreach and commitment to addressing long-standing grievances of both regions have reassured people that their aspirations will be met with equal sincerity. This renewed focus on regional harmony and equitable development has reinvigorated public confidence in NC’s vision for a united and progressive Jammu & Kashmir.

Instead of addressing these genuine concerns, BJP leaders continue to manufacture communal narratives to deflect attention from administrative failures and policy shortcomings. Such rhetoric not only undermines institutional integrity but also damages the composite culture and pluralistic identity of J&K.

As the spokesperson of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Verma made it clear:NC rejects any form of communal politics & oppose any attempt to divide students, communities, or regions. NC stand firmly for merit based education, balanced governance, and genuine unity between Jammu and Kashmir.

The people of J&K deserve responsible, visionary leadership & not provocative statements that fuel mistrust and deepen divisions. The National Conference remains committed to safeguarding harmony, protecting institutional integrity, and upholding the values that have defined Jammu & Kashmir for generations.
