Dr Jitendra Singh Refutes Claims of Udhampur Bypass, Accuses Congress of Spreading Misinformation on New Rail Track
Jammu 26 August :- A political controversy has erupted in Udhampur over the proposed new railway track from Jammu to Katra, with Union Minister in Prime Miniater’s office Dr. Jitendra Singh vehemently denying allegations that the planned route will bypass the Udhampur station.
The Minister, who is also the MP of Udhampur-Kathua- Doda , stated that a “fake impression” is being deliberately created by certain elements to mislead the public and discredit the development work of the Modi government. The clarification came after concerns spread that the new track, envisaged to handle the heavy rush of passengers to the Vaishno Devi shrine, would discriminate against the people of Udhampur.
Addressing these claims, Dr. Singh revealed that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw personally spoke to him this morning to set the record straight. Minister Vaishnaw clarified that the project is still in its nascent stage, with only a feasibility study being undertaken after accepting the proposal in principle. He emphatically stated that the process of determining the final alignment of the track has not even begun and assured that all stakeholders will be taken into confidence whenever that process is initiated.Crucially,
Dr. Singh quoted the Railway Minister as confirming that “nowhere it was mentioned by him verbally or in writing that MCTM Udhampur Railway station will not be part of the new route or will be bypassed.
Minister Vaishnaw expressed his disappointment that some are attempting to detract from the credit due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for achieving a feat that the Congress government could not in over 50 years—extending the rail network from Jammu to the Kashmir Valley.
To underscore the government’s commitment to Udhampur, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that the Udhampur station is one of only two in Jammu and Kashmir selected for a major upgrade under the prestigious ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ scheme.
He detailed the extensive scope of work planned, which includes the improvement of existing platforms, the addition of two new platforms (4 & 5), extension of the foot-over-bridge, station building enhancement, and improved circulating areas with lifts and elevators.Dr. Singh concluded by attributing the spread of misinformation to the frustration of Congress workers, whose own leadership, he alleged, followed a “discriminatory policy” by leaving the rail track stagnant at Jammu from 1972 until the Modi government took over and completed the project to connect the entire region.
