Doda police nabs five member gang involved in Rs 3 lakh gold chain snatching from an elderly woman, gold chain recovered

Doda, August 22, 2025:In a swift and commendable response, Doda Police arrested five involved in a robbery incident in Paryote village, where an elderly woman was targeted and her gold chain worth ₹3 lakh was snatched in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at around 1:40 p.m. when four men, posing as religious figures collecting donations for a langar in Amritsar, entered the residence of Usha Kumari, an elderly woman from Paryote. Upon being offered cash, the suspects refused and forcibly snatched the gold chain from her neck, pushing her aside before fleeing the scene in a white Hyundai i10, where a fifth accomplice awaited in the car.The car, bearing Delhi registration number DL 4CA P5895, sped away towards the Batote National Highway.

Upon regaining composure, the victim alerted her son Navin Thakur, who immediately informed the police. A case FIR No. 194/2025 under relevant sections of law was promptly registered at Police Station Doda.Under the direction of SSP Doda Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a district-wide alert was issued, and all checkpoints (nakas) were put on high alert.

The vehicle managed to cross the Assar Naka but was eventually intercepted at Baggar Naka, approximately 25–30 km from the crime scene.The accused were brought to PS Doda, where they were positively identified by the victim.

During the search, the stolen gold chain was recovered from their possession.The arrested individuals have been identified as:Malkit Singh, S/o Kirpal Singh,Gurbehj Singh, S/o Karnail Singh,Harkrishan Singh, S/o Satpal Singh, Babu Singh, S/o Aftar Singh5. Karnail Singh, S/o Swaran Singh(All residents of Jalandhar, Punjab)

The SSP Doda has appealed the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or helpline for timely legal intervention.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the gang is involved in similar incidents elsewhere in the Union Territory or beyond. The police encourage all residents to stay alert and prioritize their safety and that of their neighbors.
