Doda Police Crack ATM Fraud Case: Accused Arrested and ₹49,000 Cash Recovered in Thathri

DODA, Jan 20, 2026 — In a swift and successful operation, the Doda Police have apprehended a fraudster involved in multiple ATM scams and recovered stolen cash amounting to ₹49,000.

The crackdown began on January 19, after a resident, Shafkat Hussain, filed a complaint at Police Station Thathri, alleging that an individual had deceptively exchanged his ATM card at a J&K Bank outlet and subsequently withdrew ₹45,000.

During the initial probe, a second victim, Hazoor Din, reported a similar fraudulent withdrawal of ₹14,000, prompting the registration of FIR No. 07/2026.Under the direct supervision of SSP Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a specialized police team tracked down the suspect, identified as Mudassir Ahmad Ganaie, and intercepted him at Zero Point Jangwalwar.

A search of the accused led to the immediate recovery of ₹49,000 in cash. While further investigation is underway to determine if the accused is linked to a larger network, the Doda Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant.

Authorities emphasized that people should never share their ATM cards, PINs, or sensitive banking credentials with strangers to prevent falling victim to such digital financial crimes.
