District NCORD Meeting reviews Drug Control measures in Doda District

DODA, SEPTEMBER 26: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Doda Anil Kumar Thakur today chaired a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee in the VC Room, DC Office Complex.
The meeting, convened under the directions of the District Magistrate reviewed the ongoing and future strategy to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking. The session was attended by ASP Mohammad Aslam; ACD Din Mohammad Afaqi; District Social Welfare Officer Tariq Qazi; Chief Prosecuting Officer Kishore Kumar Bandral; Principal GDC Dr Javid Ahmed Zargar; officers from the Agriculture and Forest Departments, representatives of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and members of NGOs.
The discussions centred on formulation of a multi-pronged action plan to track down the traffickers, identify hotspots, installation of CCTV cameras near schools and colleges and strict monitoring of drug de-addiction centres.
The ADC directed the Heads of Educational Institutions to keep close watch in and around the schools and colleges and immediately inform the Police administration about any suspicious activity.
Tehsildars and BDOs were asked to inspect educational institutions and other sensitive locations while SDMs were instructed to ensure all departments initiate field activities, supported by photographic evidence. The misuse of prescription drugs was also highlighted, with directions to enforce computer-based billing and 100% CCTV coverage in pharmacies.
The ADC called for intensifying Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns by involving religious leaders, civil society and NGOs. He underlined the importance of declaring more panchayats as “Nasha Mukt” and ordered destruction of wild narcotic weeds. The heads of departments shared their experiences in tackling substance abuse seeking special focus on engaging youth and students in awareness programmes, including debates, rallies and cultural activities to build resilience against drugs.
To ensure accountability, the ADC directed the enforcement agencies to share monthly progress reports on NDPS cases with the Home Department and the Crime Branch. He instructed all concerned departments to submit action taken reports by the 20th of the next month.
