Director Agriculture Kashmir Launches 5th Phase of Vegetable Seedling Distribution Drive
SRINAGAR March 25, 2026:- Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, officially inaugurated the fifth phase of the department’s massive Vegetable Seedling Distribution Drive today at the Kitchen Garden Premises in Lalmandi, Srinagar.
Addressing a gathering of farmers, backyard growers, and kitchen garden enthusiasts, the Director lauded the Hi-Tech Poly House and Kitchen Garden sections for their consistent efforts in providing high-quality seedlings throughout the year.
This specific cycle aims to distribute an estimated 8.5 lakh seedlings across the Kashmir division, marking a significant step toward achieving the department’s annual production targets and ensuring food security at the grassroots level.
During the event, Sartaj Ahmad Shah emphasized the strategic importance of vegetable cultivation in the current global climate and economic landscape.
He noted that Kashmir possesses some of the most favorable climatic conditions in the country for growing both traditional and exotic vegetable varieties.
Highlighting the sector’s immense potential for economic security, he called upon the region’s educated youth to embrace vegetable farming as a modern and viable career path.
By adopting a collaborative approach between the farming community and the government, the Director believes the region can fully capitalize on its natural advantages to boost local income and agricultural resilience.
The distribution drive witnessed a large turnout of participants from across the valley, reflecting a growing interest in both commercial and domestic vegetable production.
Seed Production Officer Kashmir, Mir Ajaz Hassan, along with other senior officials, facilitated the distribution process and provided technical guidance to the growers.
The department reiterated its commitment to maintaining the momentum of these drives, ensuring that every farmer has access to the resources needed to adapt to climate change and enhance their market competitiveness through diversified crop cycles.
