DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Conducts Comprehensive Security Review of Katra and Vaishno Devi Shrine

KATRA, April 7, 2026 — Following his recent assumption of office, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Udhampur–Reasi Range conducted an extensive security assessment of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and the Katra base camp.

The high-level visit focused on evaluating ground-level security arrangements, particularly along the pilgrimage track leading to the Bhawan, to ensure the safety and well-being of thousands of visiting devotees.

During the tour, the DIG inspected CRPF camps, Joint Check Points (JCPs), and security pickets, while paying close attention to the deployment of forces at strategic domination points, access control measures, and real-time surveillance protocols.

The security review included on-site visits to the Katra and Bhawan Police Stations, as well as the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and the JCR Bhawan. The DIG engaged directly with officers and field personnel to evaluate the operational efficiency of the CCTNS systems and the specialized Special Operations Group (SOG) in Katra.

To ensure a unified response strategy, a coordination meeting was held involving representatives from the CRPF, Fire and Emergency Services, medical teams, Disaster Management authorities, and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

To conclude the assessment, the DIG scrutinized the peripheral security grid surrounding the shrine and its adjacent areas, emphasizing the need for a robust, multi-layered defense.

He issued strict directives to enhance inter-agency coordination and maintain a state of high alertness to prevent any untoward incidents.

Underscoring the administration’s commitment to a secure environment, the DIG reiterated that maintaining seamless arrangements and heightened vigilance is paramount to providing a safe, hassle-free experience for all pilgrims.
