PANGSAU PASS, Jan 23, 2026 — In a move to bolster national security along the Indo-Myanmar border, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, conducted a high-level visit to Pangsau Pass in Arunachal Pradesh on January 22, 2026.
The visit focused on a comprehensive review of the prevailing security situation and a detailed ground-level inspection of the ongoing Hybrid Surveillance System (Border Fence). This pilot project is a cornerstone of India’s strategy to modernize border management through a blend of physical barriers and advanced technological monitoring.
During his inspection, the DG emphasized that strengthening the porous frontiers is a matter of paramount national importance. He underscored the need for heightened vigilance and the seamless integration of technology to combat transnational threats and illegal cross-border movement.
