Delhi Metro Breaks Records with 235.8 Crore Passenger Journeys in 2025; India Now World’s Third-Largest Metro NetworkN
EW DELHI — March 15, 2026 — Cementing its status as the backbone of India’s urban mass transit, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has recorded a monumental 235.8 crore passenger journeys in 2025, averaging over 64.60 lakh daily commuters.
Following the recent inauguration of new sections on the Pink and Magenta Lines, the Delhi-NCR network has expanded to 416 km with 303 stations, contributing to India’s rise as the world’s third-largest Metro network with over 1,143 km of operational lines across 26 cities. Delhi Metro alone accounts for more than 55% of the 1.15 crore daily metro journeys performed nationwide, maintaining a world-class punctuality rate of 99.9%.
Beyond its massive scale, the DMRC operates one of the world’s largest driverless networks on its Pink and Magenta Lines, utilizing advanced automation to run over 4,500 daily trips.
With the Phase-IV priority corridors currently under construction and the phased procurement of 52 new trains, the Delhi Metro continues to set global benchmarks in sustainable urban mobility, effectively reducing road congestion and revolutionizing travel for millions in the capital region.
