JAMMU 24 August :– Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a visit to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Jammu today to assess the condition of individuals injured in the devastating cloudburst that struck the Kishtwar region. The visit was marked by expressions of solidarity with the victims and high praise for the medical teams providing care.
Accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Defence Minister personally met with the injured patients. He spent time inquiring about their health, the treatment they were receiving, and the progress of their recovery.
Following his interactions at the hospital, Singh addressed the press outside GMCH. He provided a detailed update on the situation, beginning by explaining the logistical challenges hindering a physical visit to the disaster site in Kishtwar.
“I also wanted to go to the spot,” the Defence Minister stated, “but due to bad weather, it is not possible to go there. And it has also been informed that there has been a landslide, so the vehicle could not move forward.”
A significant portion of the Minister’s address was dedicated to applauding the efforts of the doctors and medical staff at GMCH Jammu. He conveyed a positive outlook on the patients’ conditions, which he attributed to the dedicated and timely medical intervention.
“All the patients have recovered and are recovering well,” Singh affirmed. “And I want to congratulate all the doctors of this medical college that they have taken care of all the injured people who came here with full dedication, and all are in good condition.”
Outlining the next step in their response strategy, the Defence Minister announced plans to leverage technology to bridge the physical gap caused by the weather. He revealed that from the Raj Bhavan, a high-level review would be conducted virtually.
“We are going to the Raj Bhavan. LG Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh and I will talk to the people there through video conference,” he said.
