NEW DELHI, February 12, 2026 — In a landmark move to fortify India’s national security, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for capital acquisition proposals valued at approximately ₹3.60 lakh crore.
This massive investment is designed to enhance the combat readiness and deterrence capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces through the procurement of cutting-edge technology and the modernization of existing platforms.
A significant portion of the approval focuses on the Indian Air Force (IAF), with the DAC clearing the procurement of Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA), specifically the Rafale, along with combat missiles and Air-Ship Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellites (AS-HAPS).
The MRFA acquisition, the majority of which will be manufactured domestically, aims to secure air dominance and provide a robust long-range offensive strike capability. Meanwhile, the AS-HAPS will offer persistent intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) alongside telecommunication support for military operations.
The Indian Army will see a reinforcement of its mechanized defense and equipment longevity through the procurement of ‘Vibhav’ Anti-Tank Mines and the overhaul of critical vehicle platforms, including T-72 Tanks, BMP-II Infantry Combat Vehicles, and Armoured Recovery Vehicles (ARVs). For the Indian Navy, the council approved the acquisition of P8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft to boost anti-submarine warfare capabilities, as well as 4 MW Marine Gas Turbine-based Electric Power Generators to promote self-reliance in power generation.
Additionally, the Indian Coast Guard will receive new Electro-Optical/Infra-Red systems for its Dornier aircraft to improve maritime surveillance efficacy.
