SHOPIAN, December 29, 2025: In a major victory for digital security, the Cyber Police Station Shopian has successfully recovered and restored ₹63,22,792 to victims of various online scams throughout the current year.
The recovery was made possible following the completion of rigorous legal and judicial formalities, highlighting the department’s efficiency in tackling modern financial crimes. The operation was spearheaded by Imtiyaz Ahmad, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Cyber Police Station, under the direct supervision of Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Shopian.
During the year, the dedicated cyber cell received a surge of complaints involving UPI-based frauds, social media scams, fraudulent loan applications, and OTP deceptions. Officials noted that timely intervention was the cornerstone of their success; by utilizing advanced digital forensic tools and maintaining seamless coordination with banks, the police were able to freeze suspicious transactions at critical stages.
This proactive approach not only prevented further siphoning of funds but also ensured that defrauded amounts were returned to the rightful owners.Shopian Police have reiterated their commitment to providing a safe digital environment for the public, in accordance with the guidelines from higher headquarters.
However, they have also issued a fresh advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant. The public is strongly cautioned against sharing sensitive banking credentials or OTPs with strangers and is encouraged to report cyber fraud immediately to the dedicated helpline to facilitate rapid investigative action.
