JAMMU | January 12, 2026 — The Congress Party organized a massive sit-in dharna today at the JKPCC Headquarters in Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu, as part of the nationwide “MGNREGA Bachao” and regional “Humari Riyasat, Humara Haq” campaigns.
Led by JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, along with DCC Presidents Yogesh Sawhney and Neeraj Kundan, the protest saw a large gathering of workers voicing opposition against the perceived erosion of livelihood guarantees and constitutional rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the protesters, Raman Bhalla accused the government of systematically weakening MGNREGA—a lifeline for the rural poor—through wage delays and reduced workdays, asserting that the party would intensify its agitation until full transparency and timely payments are restored.
The “Humari Riyasat, Humara Haq” segment of the protest focused on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s democratic dignity.
Former Minister Mula Ram and DCC Jammu Urban President Yogesh Sawhney emphasized that the denial of full statehood and centralized decision-making has created widespread resentment.
They argued that the current administration’s policies have pushed marginalized communities into distress and undermined federal principles. Senior leaders including G.M. Saroori, Jugal Kishore Sharma, and Gurbachan Kumari Rana joined the sit-in, collectively warning that the Congress would mobilize a mass movement across every section of society to protect the identity and future of the region if the government fails to roll back its “anti-people” policies.
