Srinagar /Leh January 08, 2026 :- An intense cold wave has tightened its grip across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, with numerous locations recording their lowest temperatures of the season.
In the Kashmir Valley, the mercury plummeted to a bone-chilling -9.8 Degree Celsius in Sonamarg and -9.2 Degree Celsius in the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg, while the summer capital, Srinagar, shivered at -5.1 Degree Celsius.
The sub-zero trend was consistent throughout the valley, with Pahalgam recording -8.6 Degree Celsius and Shopian reaching -7.8 Degree Celsius.
Even the Jammu region has begun to feel the freeze, as Rajouri dipped to -1.0 Degree Celsius
and Bhaderwah recorded -3.4 Degree Celsius, though Jammu city remained slightly warmer at 7.1 Degree Celsius .
The most extreme conditions were reported in Ladakh, where Drass emerged as the coldest inhabited spot at a staggering -24.7 Degree Celsius, followed by Nyoma at -20.1 Degree Celsius and Leh at -14.6 Degree Celsius marking a severe peak in the regional winter.
