CM Omar Abdullah Visits IICT-NFDC Mumbai to Boost Film and Tech Talent in Jammu & Kashmir

Mumbai January 16, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) campus at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Mumbai on Thursday to explore strategic collaborations aimed at transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a modern filmmaking hub.

Hosted by IICT CEO Dr. Vishwas Deoskar and Governing Council Member Munjal Shroff, the Chief Minister’s visit focused on building a sustainable ecosystem for student exchanges, institutional cooperation, and skill development in emerging creative technologies.

During a comprehensive tour of the facility, the Chief Minister witnessed cutting-edge demonstrations of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) at the Anubhuti Drishya Immersive Studio Lab. A highlight of the visit was a live 3D photogrammetry scan at the Photogrammetry Studio, illustrating how “Digital Twin” technology can be applied to real-world scenarios.

Omar Abdullah emphasized that for Jammu and Kashmir to thrive as a premier film destination, the region must develop local post-production capabilities and human talent, making a partnership with an elite institution like IICT essential for the Union Territory’s future.

The strategic discussions also delved into using immersive tools for digital heritage and cultural preservation, alongside creating a collaborative startup incubation network for the youth of J&K. Dr. Vishwas Deoskar noted that such collaborations would foster innovation and create sustainable entrepreneurship opportunities for young talent from the region.

Before concluding his visit, the Chief Minister toured the NFDC Bharat Pavilion and Museum, which celebrates India’s cinematic legacy, reinforcing the vision of integrating J&K’s natural beauty with world-class creative technology and skilled local professionals.
