CM Omar Abdullah Urges PM Modi to Intervene as US-Israel Conflict with Iran Escalates
Srinagar, Mar 27: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah issued a stern condemnation on Friday regarding the escalating military conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, calling for immediate international restraint.
Addressing the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the Chief Minister expressed profound concern over the humanitarian crisis, specifically citing the “unacceptable” killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials.
Abdullah underscored the tragic toll on civilian populations, emphasizing that no political or strategic objective could justify the widespread loss of innocent lives, particularly children.
Highlighting the ripple effects of the Middle Eastern crisis on the local population, the Chief Minister pointed to the growing anxiety within Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that several residents are currently stranded in Iran and remarked on the visible domestic impact, such as the sudden surge of queues at petrol stations.
Abdullah further questioned the transparency of the military campaign, noting that the shifting justifications provided by U.S. leadership have left the global community without a clear understanding of the war’s ultimate goals.
In a direct appeal to the Union Government, Abdullah urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to utilize India’s unique diplomatic leverage with the United States, Israel, and Iran to broker a ceasefire.
He stressed that India must play a proactive role in facilitating de-escalation, arguing that the conflict must be viewed through a humanitarian lens to prevent further regional instability.
By advocating for a diplomatic resolution, Abdullah emphasized that the restoration of peace is not only a global necessity but a vital concern for the safety and economic stability of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
